Ever since I was a kid I was obbsessed with collecting magazines and zines. I always wanted to publish one myself, but never actually bothered. Too hard, and complicated, I guess?
But then a wise man told me,
"Noooo - when you start you'll realise it's actually really easy!" - Ronan from Paris
Enter our freind Ronan from Paris, who is spending some months in Berlin to work on his Zine "" RockN'Roll Suicide "" (named after a David Bowie track). The episodes in the zine are a 'ping-pong' between Paris and Berlin. Covering subcultural niches such a the Berlin Punk scene, riding subways, D.I.Y skateparks, free climing world famous landmarks, and underground raves.
(some previous issues, I was too slow to cop issue 2 dammit!)
The later topic, raving, was how we made contact with the curious and inquistive Ronan. One some kind of alternative research trip, to find out more about illegal raves in Berlin.
Fast forward a bit, (and to not give too much away of course, buy and read the zine instead!) a few months later a group of about 15(!) Berliner's head to a rave in Paris, and 3 weeks later a group of Parisian's drive to Berlin to help with our rave for New Year. One painted a sick mura and another delivered the highlight DJ set whilst others captured the artistic actions in beautiful photography and drone(!) footage (pretty cute to watch some ravers respond to a drone flying indoors over their head).
Rock N'Roll Suicide Number 4: interviews with illegal rave crews in Paris and Fraktion Nimmersatt in Berlin, to uncover the differences and similartieis in challenges and possibilities of raving in the two different cities.
Some little sneak peaks below, to encourage you to buy the zine !!! via Ronan's Big Cartel page.
RN'RS has really inspired me to finally put a zine together. 'Watch this space' and all that, :-)
Big up Ronan.
& see you soon Paris!!!
